Spear Making, Eco-Craft + Cooking Workshops

A fun day out for families to learn new skills, eat good food, connect with nature + other people

Saturday 18 May 2019

10am - 4pm

Private property, Kenilworth

Take the family out to the country for a day of nature immersion, learning, food and true connection with the environment, yourselves and with others.

This day retreat is for families wanting to experience and benefit from more quality time outdoors and with each other.

The activities and the environment may spark excitement, creativity, imagination and enthusiasm in you and your kids!

Whether you and your children simply don't get enough nature time each week and you're seeking more,

or you're outdoors often and want to learn new skills, meet new people and experience something truly unique...

this event is for you!

- Children aged 5 - 13 years old

- Parents / guardians

We officially welcome our guests and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, then we'll all enjoy a mug of freshly brewed campfire billy bushtucker tea and some healthy snacks as we get to know each other and get excited about the fun ahead!

10:20 - 10:45am

Clint will take everyone through a fun Primal Play Class to awaken the body and mind after the drive out to the country, introducing you to a variety of unique games and movements that'll have you laughing and feeling great!

You'll be introduced to games and activities you can do with the kids at home for fun, bonding and fitness.

10:50am 12:30pm

Clint will host a Spear Making Workshop with the kids, taking them through every step of creating a spear using natural materials, then they'll practice using their spears with a target. He'll also teach them how to move like a hunter stalking their prey!

Included will be all materials, safety and care conversations, and a spear to take home to use.

10:50am - 12:30pm

Aimee will take the adults on a walk around the property to identify and gather bushfoods and other edible plants to then use in a hands-on cooking class making a healthy and delicious lunch for the tribe.  You'll not only learn about a variety of native plants you can grow at home but how to use them in the kitchen.

This is optional as parents may want to watch/attend the spear making workshop.

12:30 - 1pm

Everyone can relax around the fire pit and enjoy a feast for lunch with coffee and billy tea available and finish with toasting healthy homemade marshmallows!

Around the fire is often where the real magic happens... meaningful conversation and connection.

1 - 2:30pm

Gather under the shade of the tall old trees and enjoy some nature craft activities, with Aimee providing a variety of craft options for everyone to choose from. Create a beautiful piece of jewellery, a palm frond treasure pouch, leaf crowns, natural cordage, or a hanging mobile/lantern.

All materials will be provided. We'll be utilising what we can find around us and recycled items as well.

2:35 - 3:30pm

Take a seat by the creek and let Aimee guide you through a unique meditation combining "Shin-rin Yoku" (Japanese Forest Bathing) techniques with her own ideas for a relaxing and revitalising experience.

This method is designed to be practiced in any full or semi-natural setting and doesn't need to take very long at all, so it's perfect for busy urban dwellers!

3:30 - 4pm

If you brought a snack to keep the kids going for the drive home enjoy that around the fire and we'll officially conclude the event before the sad but inevitable farewells.
